the present management of the New Artists’ Forum has been organising concerts of a high level since 1989.
The organisation exists since 1972, we have been leading it since 1989, see:
Chamber Music Concerts and Opera- and Operetta Concerts.
- The reason, that motivated us, -after the signatory had already been active in the jury for several years-, to take over the ongoing organisation of the International Dostal Operetta Competition from 2011 on, with significant support of the City of Korneuburg, is unfortunately a sad one.
The creator and organizer, Mr. Karl Stadler, passed away much too early in December 2010. It was always very important for him to force the cultural engagement for the complete oevre of the last, great master of operetta, Professor Nico Dostal (1895 – 1981).
This was also because he was in luck to gain an invaluable mentor in Mrs. Lillie Claus Dostal (1905 – 2000) when he proposed her to organise a competition in 1974.
Mr. Stadler also originally named the competition “Operetta Young Singers Competition”. - We have changed the name to “Dostal Singing Competition” from 2011 on because of the new internet presence, and because interest should be focused on compositions of Nico Dostal.
In the spirit of the founder, however, we reserve the right not to accept applications from already established singers who are verifiably already professionally active (homepage, etc.). The competition shall be dedicated to the young talents. - Lillie’s and Nico Dostal’s son, the conductor Roman Dostal (1943 – 2014) and afterwards Roman’s life partner for many years, Mrs. Margareta Wörndl made the competition possible in the first place by awarding the three first prizes!
- Roman donated from 1974 (!) 25 years/competitions alone (until 1990 in cooperation with his mother Lillie, from 2008 with Mrs. Margareta Wörndl) the three first prizes and provided for free to the singers the sheet music of the protected duty arias.
- Mrs.Wörndl privately donated the prize money for the Competition in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018 in same value. She deserves our utmost respect and appreciation for this!
